Battery Cleaning:

The thought of Cleaning the Batteries on your EZGO, Club Car, or any other golf cart can frighten some people. With a little care there is nothing to worry about when doing maintenance on your cart batteries. Follow these steps with care and there should be no problem. 

Before Starting find an open ventilated area that can't be damaged when the residue is cleaned off your cart batteries and falls below.

First, make things safer by neutralizing the battery acid before hosing off with water. By using a mixture of baking soda and water or getting some battery acid cleaner from an auto parts store, this will prevent any cart corrosion during removal. The cleaning of your batteries once a month is a good step towards longer battery life. When you minimize corrosion to the electrical system battery life can be increased and properly maintained batteries can last as long as 6 years. 

Have the cleaner stay on for 5 to 10 minutes and then rinse off with clean water. Take great caution not to spray water directly into electrical components like your speed controller a they can cost as much as $500+ to replace.

Once rinsed if there is still deposits of battery acid left you can spray again after adding more baking soda solution or cleaner and let it sit for at least 5 minutes before rinsing again.

The big reason for removing the deposits on the batteries is because they can cause your golf cart batteries to discharge on their own. If you find there is still remnants of corrosion build up, put on some protective gloves and eye protection. Take a firm bristle brush and scrub the build up off the contacts. After your golf cart has dried off, move the cart away and clean up the location you were working in.
